When calling a venue, they ask for my wedding budget, do I have to tell them?

So everytime I call they ask for my budget, which i don’t have as of right now, but I am trying to call and find out prices so I can adjust my budget somehow and compare prices. Well everytime I call they ask for my budget, I feel like I don’t need to tell them. They just need to know how many people are attending. Why do they ask? Agh!

Absolutely not.

I dealt with the same thing ring shopping, at all the chain stores they wanted to know how much we were willing to spend, yeah, no thanks.

They ask either because they want to make sure you can afford the venue or so they can recommend only packages within your reach, or so they know your price and can work at getting the top dollar from you.

I would just tell them your budget is in the works, or you’re just pricing around right now. You could also give a vague answer, like we’re working with a moderate budget.

what is the average budget for a 21st birthday party?

I am going to invite probably 50-75 people, i plan on having the party at my home, and am going to supply alcohol but also have people have the option to BYOB. I would really appreciate maybe a link to a budget wheel, like they have for weddings where it says how much of the budget should be spent on certain things. Thanks guys

Are you a chicago area wedding DJ who can work with a $600 budget?

On a tight wedding budget and am having my wedding in Hickory Hills on 6/17/11. If you are an experienced wedding DJ, is available and will charge me $600 or less to work my 5.5 hour wedding. I’d love to hear from you. I don’t need high tech fancy equipment just looking for basic dance lighting and music equipment loud enough for 250 guest wedding reception hall.

With a prime date you will be hard pressed to find a good professional dj for $600.

Your wedding is just a little less than a year away put an extra few dollars away every week and up your budget to $900.

The difference between a DJ in the $600 range and the $900 range will be night and day.

$600 is very cheap for my area, a big city like Chicago it would be insanely low.

Read reviews on Wedding Wire and The Knot before you hire anyone. The DJ is the most important part of your reception, many people ruin their wedding by hiring a cheap DJ.

Hi… I know of no free wedding-planner courses, although I may be wrong.

It took me years to write the AAWP course, based on my years of research on the wedding industry and my experience. It also takes a lot of time to keep the course updated and current so that all the information is the best it can be for our members. We also support our members in their businesses, which is critical for their success. It’s a lot of time and effort, but it’s so worth it!

When looking for courses (free or not), ask these questions before proceeding:

1. Is the organization that offers the course an organization of wedding planners and wedding professionals? If not, don’t consider it.

2. Is wedding planning their only focus, or do they offer other, diverse courses? Wedding planning should be their ONLY focus.

3. Who wrote the course? This is critical. The person who is teaching you should be an expert with lots of experience in the field.

4. Does the course offer "Business Development Services"? If not, look elsewhere. What’s the point of learning how to plan a wedding, if you don’t know how to develop and grow your business?

5. Does the course offer ongoing, professional support once you complete it? You will need help as you start and grow your business. Having a professional organization to call or email for support, answers, and information may be the difference between success and failure.

Make sure the course you select offers you all it can in the way of education and the necessary tools you’ll need to build and grow a wedding planning business.

* P.S. To find the demand for wedding planners in Omaha, do an online search for planners. If lots of names come up, there’s lots of demand. On the other hand, Omaha is a big city. If there aren’t lots of names, it may be a good market to break into! Good luck!

What is the best sony camera lens for my sony a350?

I am looking for some type of lens compatibility with my SONY A350 SLR. I am thinking of the Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 Macro Lens (or telephoto lens) or the Minolta 50mm f/2.8 macro lens. Will these lens fit in my camera? I want to shoot some graduation parties and weddings as well and just wondering what you guys experience in the actual lens being used. I want something below 200 because I am on a budget.

Planning a wedding on small budget? What do you think about my ideas?

I plan on having a beautiful wedding on a small budget… way less than $10,000 dollars. I plan on having 100 or so people. So do you think I can pull it off? I truly think it’s very possible! I’ve already found a wedding reception hall that is way under $1,000 and the place is beautiful. The reception hall will provide us with tables and chairs. I might have to rent chair covers and table cloths. (Which I don’t mind.) The reception hall will also provide us with plates and few other kitchen items.

I think I’m going to recruit a lot of my family members and friends to help me out with the wedding. I want a family oriented wedding where my friends can feel as if their apart of my family. I don’t want a huge expensive show. That’s why I’m choosing to have a DIY wedding reception that looks expensive. Everyone I know is pretty creative. I’m a very crafty person so I plan on making all the wedding favors, wedding programs, boutonnieres, decorations, wedding invites, wedding pillow, etc. I found a beautiful scrapbook in my room that I plan on using for my wedding as a guestbook. The cost: Free! I’ve got beautiful picture frames in my room of my fiance and I. Those pictures will be used at my reception. I even might have my finance and I grow our own flowers for the wedding. The more things that I can make by hand for our wedding, the more money my fiance and I will be saving. Which I believe to be true!

I found a restaurant that caters on great budget. I don’t plan on getting a fancy wedding cake from a bakery. I might just get myself a store bought wedding cake. My moms friend owns a dress shop and she can get me a great deal on a simple wedding dress. I might hire my aunt who takes professional looking pictures in her spare time to be my photographer for the wedding. I also know other people who too are good at photography. I will hire a DJ because my fiance and I love music so much. I think that I will be buying my own liquor for the wedding and having a family member of mine who doesn’t much like to dance be a bartender.

I’m so excited to be planning my wedding with my fiance. I think he’s going to be excited too. Were both crafty people. So we plan on using our imagination for this wedding. I love my fiance so much and I can’t wait for our special day that will occur sometime next summer. Wedding planning for me has been very exciting because I don’t feel so stressed out. My wedding is just one day and it’s day that I want to remember but I also want my family and friends to remember the day as well. When I first started doing wedding research I felt overwhelmed. Now I don’t feel that way thanks to the 2000 wedding budget website!!

So what do you all think of my ideas? Can I pull this off? I think it’s possible to have a beautiful wedding on a small budget. I hope to inspire others also when they plan their wedding. So I want your input?

My wedding budget is 5,000, with a 2,000 honeymoon included. So girl, I KNOW you can do this!!

And a plain cake, for 150 people should only cost 150 or so, then YOU get to decorate it. I am putting preserved flowers, and fresh edible petals on mine.

Is it okay to email invites?

I don’t know a lot about weddings since I don’t really know anybody that’s gotten married. I am on a really limited budget, so I was wondering if it is okay to send invites through email. All of my friends and family are on Facebook, and it would be way cheaper than sending them by mail. Also I don’t exactly know any of my relatives address.

No, it’s not okay to email invites. There’s too much of a chance that they could end up not being received by family and friends who don’t check their email, or have filters that send your legitimate invite to the junk or spam folder, etc. Also, handling the invites through FB may open it up to problems with FB friends that expect invites but aren’t invited seeing some or all of your wedding-related communications, possibly causing drama, hurt feelings, and resentment. In addition, I have been to my share of weddings, and I enjoy seeing the invites in the mail with touches of the couple’s personalities…and I’m sure your invited guests will appreciate them as well.

If you’re low on cash, you have a number of options. Go on eBay or Etsy and order invites, or look for coupons from Michael’s and do the invites through them, or alternately get the materials at Michael’s or another craft store and DIY, and then mail them, allowing them to respond via wedding website or telephone (thus eliminating the need for SASEs that might get misplaced). If you don’t have your relatives’ addresses, ask your parents, or alternately PM your relatives on FB and ask them for it.

How much did you spend on your wedding?

I’m getting engaged soon and I’m already planning the wedding!! LOL How much was spent on your wedding? I don’t want anything over the top but I know some people go wild with their wedding budget and I just wanted to know what others have spent. I’m keeping my dress simple, spending more on flowers and the reception. I also really want to have live music at the wedding and not a recording….Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated too! Thanks

I am getting married on April 17th, 2009, so we don’t know 100% yet how much our wedding will cost. So far, we are expecting to spend about $27,000 on a wedding for 80 people in the NYC metro area, including $7,000 on air+hotel for a 2 week honeymoon in Hawaii and Mexico (we are not factoring in what we expect to spend while we’re actually there into the wedding budget). Like boom said, the cost of your wedding will vary greatly depending on the geographical area you are from. In and around NYC, $100 per person catering hall is a bargain (although that includes open bar), whereas somewhere closer to the middle of the country you can find a hall that’s just as nice for $40pp. We decided on a smaller, intimate wedding, in order to be able to afford a better quality wedding. The best way to save on your wedding is to cut the guest list, because that way you can still afford to have the wedding of your dreams with the same budget you would have spread out on a larger quantity of guests.
We are very fortunate to have my parents paying for the majority of the wedding, I think we are only spending about $10,000 ourselves. Just to give you an idea, our photographer is costing $2,500, DJ: $1,200, flowers: $1,300, and my dress + veil + shoes is about $1,200. All in all though, the best advice I can give you is that a smaller guest list will result in fewer overall expenses and a better quality wedding. You will save not only on food and per person prices at the catering hall you choose, but on flowers, favors, invitations, etc, as well. Also, if you are on a budget, try to keep your bridal party small: between the bridal party gifts and paying for their bouquets and boutonnieres, those costs add up as well.

My upcoming wedding- problems with the reception?

My husband and I are getting married April 23, 2011 in the most beautiful location of San Diego, CA. But to save money and to cut costs (since we live in Southern California) we opted to save $10,000 (literally) by having a 3 1/2 wedding/reception in the morning/afternoon. Our wedding will take place at 9:30am, then lunch will be served shortly there after until 1.

We’re saving so much because 1) it’s not a 6 hr event 2) there isn’t an open bar 3) no dj and most of all taxes, service charges, and we’re able to keep our wedding small at 50 people instead of having the minimum of 100 people at $130/per (before taxes) This way we’re paying $103/person with taxes.

Anyways! The few friends that I’m inviting are already complaining! "Why isn’t there any music and a dance floor?" "Why don’t you have an open bar?" "Oh you’re just wasting your money." "It’s tacky to make your own centerpieces" (which by the way are gorgeous!– White Orchids submerged in 16" in. vases with black pebbles at the bottom) and so much more trash that I’m just tired of listening to it!

What do I say to them? My fiance and I are on a budget. Our ENTIRE wedding with the reception, venue, dress, cake, photographer, etc.. is about $7500… and honestly, that’s all we can afford. Let’s face it, weddings are more about a show for the family and friends, than the bride and groom. The bride and groom just want pictures.

I want to avoid the added stress of trying to please everyone. Any suggestions? Thank you.
To MessyKatt- Most of my friends are "well off" and have parents who are willing to chip in.. so they expect more out of everyone else as well. I understand what you’re saying… there are 3 people in my life who are causing this stress. & everyone is right, time to cut it out of my life. Thank you to everyone!

You know what? CONGRATS!!! It sounds like it is going to be gorgeous!!!

I am also having a crafty, lower cost wedding (although yours sounds elegant with Orchids and mine is sort of crazy). Here is what you should say:

"Future Husband and I are being financially responsible so we can accomplish our goals in our marriage."

Here is what I say when explaining my $6000 budget: "I don’t want to deplete our savings or go into debt for one day when money saved could go into our future family. We are planning on starting a family after we are married and I can go without some flowers on my wedding if it means our baby will be better provided for." (baby isn’t planned for some years, but people don’t know that.)

And to anyone giving you hassle that isn’t married yet:
"Oh, you’ll understand when you start planning your own wedding." (It is a little catty, but I think well deserved in this case.

AND REMEMBER: it is YOU and YOUR HUSBAND’S DAY! It is what makes you two happy. I have been to weddings where I thought it was God awful boring, but it made the married couple happy so I didn’t regret being there one bit.

Also, making your own centerpieces aren’t tacky at all. Perhaps you need to stop sharing details with these friends that are stressing you out. Your supportive friends should be the ones you are turning to.
