Are u planning a wedding on a budget?

How stressful was/is it for you & your fiance? Was/is your fiance making things seems impossible because of money being limited? Please let me know if any of you are experiencing this. Cause I am! I’m so stressed and frustrated! I only have 2 more months and we’ve been planning since the beginning of the year but the budget is killing me softly. AHhhhh!!

It does make me angry that the wedding industry has become such a money making business that everyone has their hands in the bride’s pockets. And so many of the details are completely unnecessary, but people make brides think they are essential.

My best suggestion involves having someone who has some spare time and is dependable to do some legwork for the bride. This person can look at venues, florists, photographers, etc and get lots of time consuming running around taken care of. Then make a list and let the bride look at the 3-5 best choices and make a decision after speaking to the vendors she’s interested in.

It’s hard to not get so excited that you’ll order things that aren’t necessary, waste time on projects that won’t make a difference. I spoke to a young bride today who decided "to heck" with the fancy invitations. She and her fiance make beautiful invitations themselves. They are charming, show the personality of the couple and are true keepsakes. And they cost less than $1 each, plus postage.

By the time many brides get into the planning, they realize the money is running low because of things people talked them into early on. And that is what is so aggravating for people who’ve "been there, done that."

But please try to relax and enjoy the time until the wedding. Ask yourself "is this necessary" next time someone wants your money. ;-) You have to look out for you own budget. Vendors won’t help you. They’re looking out for themselves, at your expense.

I wish you the very best!!!

Four weddings? Do you watch it?

It seems obvious to me that the "brides" are always going to rate the other weddings badly because they want to win the honeymoon themselves! And it seems like a totally unlevel playing field in the first place because they don’t have the same budget…

On the "celebrity" 4 weddings (last night) David Van Day spent £50,000! Surely his wedding should of won and been the best seeing his budget was twice that of the others? (More or less!)

At lest on "restaurant in our living room" they both have the SAME budget to start with, surely that makes it more fair?

Who would WANT your wedding be on TV like that anyway? Competing and showing off?

I watch this and to me it is obvious that some people are only going into the competition to show off and not because they cant afford a honeymoon – because there was a women who spent 40,000 on her wedding, she wasnt famous and so it was obvious she could have a honeymoon if she wanted one, she was purely showing off.
I didnt watch the one with this David but to be honest i like how everybody has their own budget because there are some people with a 3,000 budget who really want a honeymoon, competing against a person with a 30,000 who is looking to show off. I’m glad the person with the lower budget sometimes wins because it shows that money doesnt always buy you the best and gives the genuine person without money for a honeymoon the prize they wanted, instead of giving it to the person who could afford it without the show anyway.
For me, i would rather go without a honeymoon than have 3 other (sometimes snobs) criticising my wedding.

What wedding planning tools are most useful?

I’m a bride-to-be and I have just been exploring wedding planning websites on the web, I was just wondering if any recently married brides who used online wedding planning sites could let me know what online wedding planning tools (like checklists, inspiration boards, budget planners, seating plans…) they found most useful? Thanks!

Hi :) I’m not married but personally for me I think the checklist/timeline and the budget planner (theknot) are the most helpful. I don’t think online seating plans are particularly helpful lol I find it much more helpful to write/draw it all out. Inspiration boards are fun :D Without a doubt, most helpful website regarding tools is the knot. I also love wednet and yourwedding101 for articles and ettiquete. Those are my top 3 :) Congrats and best wishes!! x

Tips for Brides Attending Bridal Shows

For some people, planning of a wedding is a complicated and daunting process but it doesn’t have to be. One way to help simplify the wedding planning process is to attend a bridal show. Attending bridal shows is one of the best ways to get ideas and locate vendors for your wedding because they put you in touch with a variety of potential vendors under one roof, allowing you to compare products, services and prices. Florists, photographers, decorators, caterers, bridal salons and more are available to you to offer their services and expert advice. Another advantage of attending bridal shows is that many vendors offer “show only” discounts or special prices for a limited time. There are several things to do and not to do when it comes to bridal show shopping. These tips are designed to help you save time and money by making the most of the bridal show “one-stop shopping” opportunity.

1. Register Before the Show
Admission is discounted or free if you register prior to the show.
If you are getting married in the Greater Toronto Area, visit http://www.torontobride.com/bshows.html for the show discount coupons.

2. Wear Comfortable Shoes
A show can last several hours, so dress comfortably and a wear great-fitting pair of shoes. You WILL be doing a lot of walking!

3. Return Address Labels
Bring address labels to use when signing up for vendor mailing lists or prizes. Use the stickers rather than filling out the entry forms.

4. Pick up a wedding planner
Most bridal shows offer a variety of wedding books and planners. For the Greater Toronto Area, Wedding Resources Planner and Guide (http://www.torontobride.com) is an excellent choice. Keep the planner in hand for reference and recording notes on the vendors as you make your way through the show.

5. Get organized
Make a list of vendors you still need beforehand. Once you arrive at the show, visit those vendors first.

6. Ask Questions
Bring a list of questions to ask the bridal vendors. They are there to help you. Jot down any price quotes or tips they may have to offer.

7. Act decisively.
An advantage of attending bridal shows is that many vendors offer “show only” discounts or special prices for a limited time. Bring your checkbook, you may want to book a service or give a deposit to hold a date.

Don’t wait any longer than two or three days following the show to sort through and organize all vendor materials accumulated from the event. Nothing is worse than assuming you can take your time and discovering what you want is no longer available because you procrastinated. Many vendors become completely booked within two weeks following the show, so make contact as soon as possible.

Are there any Aussie wedding magazines or websites for less expensive weddings?

I’ve been looking at all these wedding magazines and they all have beautiful suggestions but they’re far out of reach of my budget. Is there a wedding website or magazine that has suggestions for the more budget conscious bride? I don’t want a couture dress or a $10,000 ring – we just want a lovely day with family and friends where we can celebrate our love without spending thousands and thousands. Any recommendations?

cosmopolitan brides is a good magazine.. it has stuff for every budget
