Can you throw a respectable wedding on a 3k budget?
My cousin is getting married in one year from now, him and his fiance don’t have much money
so they set a 3k budget.
They want to invite 150 people and accommodate that many people on that budget this includes the reception as well.
They are a young couple in there 20s , they asked me what I think about it.
I don’t know a hell of a lot about weddings as I’m only 24 and never been married , but I said if you have a small budget maybe they should go to the court house and get their marriage certificate, and than spend that money on the reception because I think 3k could make a nice reception.
and maybe later on they could throw a wedding later when they have more money.
What do you think, can you throw a nice wedding on a 3k budget?
Your cousin will find out soon enough that she will not be able to have the wedding she wants with the budget she wants. Even if she were to have a courthouse wedding and only have the reception with that many people, and a very casual sort of snack-food reception, she will be pushing it. Hosting ANY party, wedding or not, for 150 people is expensive.
It is possible to do a wedding on a $3k budget, but it is hard. She will need to cut corners and compromise, even forgo certain things, but if that is ll they can afford and they want to get married now, that’s what they should do.

Advice on wedding venue. Found another one and now confused :s How do we choose?
Original venue we liked was http://www.staugustines.uk.com/Home.php as it has a chapel so we could have a civil ceremony, wedding breakfast, chapel blessing and evening reception.
The prices on the website civil wedding, wedding breakfast, drinks package, evening buffet and dining room charge.
For 60 guests, saturday price is £6207
•Friday wedding – a discount of at least 16%
•Sunday wedding – a discount of at least 20%
•Monday to Thursday weddings – a discount of at least 33%
Now i was searching some more and found this venue http://www.salmestonegrange.co.uk/index.htm and now i am really confused. I just priced everything up for a thursday wedding a friday wedding and a saturday wedding and got :
Thursday: £4769
Friday: £5269
Saturday: £5894
And these all include exclusive venue hire, chapel marriage (rather than civil ceremony and blessing as the original venue), reception drinks for 60 guests, canapes, 3 course wedding breakfast for 60 guests, corkage for 12 bottles of wine with the meal and evening buffet for 80 guests.
We were looking at a budget of £5000 excluding wedding dress but we do have £7000 saved.
I think I prefer this one because of a chapel marriage rather than civil ceremony, and we both want to get married in a church.
Help?? Which should we choose??
and the second one has accomodation on site – maybe good for getting ready into wedding dress etc
According to your budget, you can make any day at any venue.
It looks like you get a little extra with the second place. And you want the church wedding.
Ask yourself which place is better. You seem to be saying 2nd place, than go for it
When planning a low-budget wedding, what are the MUST do’s?
Not sure…I know my fiance has a lot of family, so accomidating them would important. Thankfully they all live nearby. I want it to be tasteful and elegant, I’m okay if there aren’t many flowers but I don’t know how I feel about fake ones…
Well obvious musts are the marriage license and officiant. Need those just to do the deed!
After that everything is fluff. But your attire and his attire, food, drinks (alcoholic or not), wedding cake (or dessert). Maybe a bridal bouquet and other flowers.
Maybe if a small wedding, have your "reception" at a restaurant and they may have a room seperate.
Don’t know how much you are planning on spending.
Newly pregnate need to plan budget wedding for 2 months away any ideas?
Suprise after four years we just found out we are pregnate!!! I was raised very old fashioned so I’d like to be married before the baby. And I know if I don’t have an actual wedding now I’ll probley never have one. We have talked about this a million times but now I’m 6 weeks and need to figure out a way to do a wedding about 2 months away on a low budget. If you have any ideas or suggestions to help out please let me know.
First, you are pregnant, not pregnate.
You can do this, but obviously you’ll need to cut a lot of corners. First, figure out your budget and then subtract the marriage license cost and officiant fee. These are the only 2 must-haves. Then the ideal way would be to get someone to offer up their backyard for the ceremony and reception. (You have to take into account that 2 months from now is the height of spring wedding season, so you have very limited options). Once you’ve done this, then get the invites out. Obviously, this would be a fairly small list of family and friends.
Next get an officiant. You can ask on your local craigslist about this.
Then track down your dress through ebay, craigslist or you can check with local places like David’s for any sales.
Figure out the catering. For a small group, you could either beg family members to do it, or if you can afford it, check with local restaurants about their options and prices.
Then see what’s left and figure out how to get anything else you want cheaply.
