Planning a wedding on small budget? What do you think about my ideas?

I plan on having a beautiful wedding on a small budget… way less than $10,000 dollars. I plan on having 100 or so people. So do you think I can pull it off? I truly think it’s very possible! I want to prove to the wedding industry that I can do this! Here is the website that inspired me to have a not so stressful wedding on a budget: http://2000dollarwedding.com/

I’ve already found a wedding reception hall that is way under $1,000 and the place is beautiful. The reception hall will provide us with tables and chairs. I might have to rent chair covers and table cloths. (Which I don’t mind.) The reception hall will also provide us with plates and few other kitchen items.

I think I’m going to recruit a lot of my family members and friends to help me out with the wedding. I want a family oriented wedding where my friends can feel as if their apart of my family. I don’t want a huge expensive show. That’s why I’m choosing to have a DIY wedding reception that looks expensive. Everyone I know is pretty creative. I’m a very crafty person so I plan on making all the wedding favors, wedding programs, boutonnieres, decorations, wedding invites, wedding pillow, etc. I found a beautiful scrapbook in my room that I plan on using for my wedding as a guestbook. The cost: Free! I’ve got beautiful picture frames in my room of my fiance and I. Those pictures will be used at my reception. I even might have my finance and I grow our own flowers for the wedding. The more things that I can make by hand for our wedding, the more money my fiance and I will be saving. Which I believe to be true!

I found a restaurant that caters on great budget. I don’t plan on getting a fancy wedding cake from a bakery. I might just get myself a store bought wedding cake. My moms friend owns a dress shop and she can get me a great deal on a simple wedding dress. I might hire my aunt who takes professional looking pictures in her spare time to be my photographer for the wedding. I also know other people who too are good at photography. I will hire a DJ because my fiance and I love music so much. I think that I will be buying my own liquor for the wedding and having a family member of mine who doesn’t much like to dance be a bartender.

I’m so excited to be planning my wedding with my fiance. I think he’s going to be excited too. Were both crafty people. So we plan on using our imagination for this wedding. I love my fiance so much and I can’t wait for our special day that will occur sometime next summer. Wedding planning for me has been very exciting because I don’t feel so stressed out. My wedding is just one day and it’s day that I want to remember but I also want my family and friends to remember the day as well. When I first started doing wedding research I felt overwhelmed. Now I don’t feel that way thanks to the 2000 wedding budget website!!

So what do you all think of my ideas? Can I pull this off? I think it’s possible to have a beautiful wedding on a small budget. I hope to inspire others also when they plan their wedding. So I want your input?

My wedding budget is 5,000, with a 2,000 honeymoon included. So girl, I KNOW you can do this!!

Have fun, be creative, and don’t stress if everything doesn’t go as planned.

Also, Try sam’s club for flowers if you don’t wind up growing them.

And a plain cake, for 150 people should only cost 150 or so, then YOU get to decorate it. I am putting preserved flowers, and fresh edible petals on mine.

Can you throw a respectable wedding on a 3k budget?

My cousin is getting married in one year from now, him and his fiance don’t have much money
so they set a 3k budget.

They want to invite 150 people and accommodate that many people on that budget this includes the reception as well.
They are a young couple in there 20s , they asked me what I think about it.

I don’t know a hell of a lot about weddings as I’m only 24 and never been married , but I said if you have a small budget maybe they should go to the court house and get their marriage certificate, and than spend that money on the reception because I think 3k could make a nice reception.
and maybe later on they could throw a wedding later when they have more money.

What do you think, can you throw a nice wedding on a 3k budget?
The wedding will be in a suburb of Atlanta I think in a back yard or something to that effect , from what I understand the brides family will take care of all the food, but I’m still not sure about such a small budget for 150 people. I mean you have flowers, candles, music , and a photographer plus what ever else. I know a photographer/DJ alone will run about 1k and that is low end.

They do not belong to a church or any kind of organization so that might be out of the question.
I will be a brides maid in this wedding so I hope it turns out well :)
And the bride to be was given a wedding dress from a friend of hers .. she said she will have it altered a bit so she can fit into it better.

you can IF you do these things
1- cut the guest list in half, no joke, i’m serious
2- make it in the morning, catered breakfast is much cheaper
3- or make it real late at night like 8 pm and let everyone know there will only be cake and punch, this will force people to get dinner somewhere and then come to the party
4- NO real flowers ANYWHERE not on the bouquet, the flower girl the groom ALL flowers must be fake real flowers cost a fortune
5-no videographer
6-no photographer
7- no wedding favors
8-no place cards
9- no rented anything, this means tables, chairs, plants, vases, nothing rented, rentals are super expensive
10- no real dinnerware or plates
11- no live band or live musicians of any kind, all music must be recordings or on an ipod
12- no bar, or at least no open bar, but if you make it in the morning you can get away with no bar cuz who wants to drink at 10 am?
13- no registering for gifts, if you aren’t gonna throw a fancy party it would be tacky to ask for anything, people will be offended
14- no bridesmaids or groomsmen gifts, get them something later, after the wedding
15- no professional invitations, get them at hobby lobby print them yourself and make do
16- look for restaurants with package deals, for a wedding with 75 guests they are easy to find
17- craigslist EVERYTHING you can
18- make anything you can
19- tell people who can make things, decorate, sing, sew, or decorate cakes that THIS will be their wedding gift to you if they do it for you
20- two words: in-state honeymoon, do NOT travel anywhere, save the trip for the 1 yr anniversary, road trips are romantic!

Advice on wedding venue. Found another one and now confused :s How do we choose?

Original venue we liked was http://www.staugustines.uk.com/Home.php as it has a chapel so we could have a civil ceremony, wedding breakfast, chapel blessing and evening reception.

The prices on the website civil wedding, wedding breakfast, drinks package, evening buffet and dining room charge.

For 60 guests, saturday price is £6207

•Friday wedding – a discount of at least 16%
•Sunday wedding – a discount of at least 20%
•Monday to Thursday weddings – a discount of at least 33%

Now i was searching some more and found this venue http://www.salmestonegrange.co.uk/index.htm and now i am really confused. I just priced everything up for a thursday wedding a friday wedding and a saturday wedding and got :

Thursday: £4769
Friday: £5269
Saturday: £5894

And these all include exclusive venue hire, chapel marriage (rather than civil ceremony and blessing as the original venue), reception drinks for 60 guests, canapes, 3 course wedding breakfast for 60 guests, corkage for 12 bottles of wine with the meal and evening buffet for 80 guests.

We were looking at a budget of £5000 excluding wedding dress but we do have £7000 saved.

I think I prefer this one because of a chapel marriage rather than civil ceremony, and we both want to get married in a church.

Help?? Which should we choose??
and the second one has accomodation on site – maybe good for getting ready into wedding dress etc

According to your budget, you can make any day at any venue.

It looks like you get a little extra with the second place. And you want the church wedding.

Ask yourself which place is better. You seem to be saying 2nd place, than go for it

wedding on a budget ideas please!!?

Hey everyone thanks for taking the time to read this! my fiance and I plan on getting married in August of 2011, which gives us a little over a year to save…our budget is between 6,000&8,000(not including honeymoon bc its taken care of) I have family members, who Dj, Cater, can make the flowers, and Im having the wedding party pay for their own dresses&tuxes! Our guest list is right around 150…Im also not picky about how much my wedding dress costs, has anyone else pulled off a wedding with this budget? Any tips?

You already have so many resources, congratulations! Here a few more ideas:
* Ask friends to photograph your wedding. We had friends who owned great cameras because it was their hobby, and they took pictures for free. Since I love to scrapbook, I made a beautiful album and honestly it was fun to make!
* Make your own invitations. I’ve actually seen elegant, inexpensive invitations you can print out yourself at craft stores (Michaels, Joanne’s), walmart, office depot and target. In the invitations, ask people to rsvp by email or to call you or the person you put in charge of rsvp’s. Don’t forget to ask them to include specific information that you’ll need, such as their names, food choices or diet restrictions (if you need that info for your caterer), and how many people will be attending.
* Buy a smaller, but pretty wedding cake for pictures and the cake cutting, but have sheet cakes in the back to serve to your guests. Inexpensive and pretty cakes are usually found in Chinese bakeries…they’re hidden treasures. I bought a basic three tiered wedding cake that served 150 people for $100. I had over 300 guests, so after we cut the cake, it was rolled into the kitchen where the other sheet cakes were and voila! cake for everyone!!! Once they delivered the cake ($45 to deliver outside their city), my friends decorated it with fresh flowers and it was gorgeous. If you have a chinatown nearby, it’s worth it to check out their bakeries. My brother-in-law pronounced it was the best cake he’d ever had. If the chinese bakeries didn’t work, I would have checked out the Mexican bakeries next.
* Ebay and Craig’s List have great deals on wedding dresses. I found 3 wedding dresses in thrift stores in affluent neighborhoods and had my pick of what to wear. But I ended up finding a new dress in a bridal gown outlet store, which is what I eventually chose to wear. I even bought my bridal attendants their new Jessica McClintock dresses for $10 each at the outlet store. My grandmother’s friend altered my dress for free. I borrowed a friend’s veil.
* My friend did my make-up and hair.
* I researched community centers and found one in an affluent neighborhood, with a beautifully maintained garden beside it, so I had a garden wedding at city government prices. They even had chairs included in the rental… it was a great find. You should check out your county’s parks and rec.
* Are you involved in a church? Maybe talk to the pastor and see if any groups in the church that could help you put together your favors or decorate your reception area. My church greatly helped in this area.

Have I ever regretted cutting corners as I did? No. Our wedding is paid for, and we did not get in debt. It was totally worth it! It was more important to us to share our day with others with joy, and to enjoy our wedding day – which we did! It truly is just one day that goes by in a whirl. Better to concentrate more energy and investment in your marriage, rather than the wedding.

I hope you have a wonderful wedding! Many blessings to you!

Wedding Planning???

I’m not getting married for almost 2 years, but I’m horrible at planning things. I don’t have the money to hire a wedding planner bc I have a small budget. I know 2 years is a long time, but when should I start looking for dresses, venues, food? When is a good time to start the actual planning? I have no clue!!

Ha! Two years is a long time…but not in the wedding planning world. You’re in a perfect position to start planning your wedding right now. And I think that if you plan one thing every month you’ll find that it is actually more fun to plan for your big day.

Start with your ceremony and reception locations. They are typically the hardest to reserve. After that move to the photographer and wedding dress. Then wedding party attire. Create a free account on WeddingChannel.com or TheKnot.com and check out their wedding check list. It’ll give you the guidelines of what to do in different time frames.

Congrats on your engagement and good luck! Remember….have fun planning…it’s such an important day and you’ll want to enjoy it to the fullest!
